Central Texas — Honky tonks have been the living room of Texas working culture since the 1930s — roadside beer joints that sprung up just outside dry county lines, where the music started as background noise and turned into an entire genre. The walls collected the instruments of whoever passed through. Some belonged to legends. Some belonged to guys who never made it past the county line. Standing in front of them, you can't always tell the difference.
